What is a 'green' building?
A 'green building' (also referred to as 'green construction' or 'sustainable
design') refers to architecture and design that applies processes, technologies
and materials that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient
throughout a building's life-cycle: from planning to design, construction,
operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition (whether a building or
its parts can be recycled and/or reused). This requires cooperation of the
client and the architect, and then the architect with the consulting team
and the contractor, throughout the project stages. Practicing 'green buildings'
and 'sustainable design' complements and/or replaces and/or improves the
classical building design and construction practices, aiming towards sustainability,
comfort and health for both the users of the building and the entire planet.
